Plans for an ‘invasive’ 5G mast have received backlash from angry residents.

The proposals for a 15m pole in Hamble have attracted a flurry of objections online.

Residents have branded the plans as ‘inappropriate’ for the area.

The plans, submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council by CK Hutchinson, state that the pylon would sit adjacent to the main road, in front of businesses, including Chambers of Hamble and the Post Office.

Objecting to the plans, Hamble resident Florence Gimonet said: “This will be visually very invasive right by the entrance of the village.

“Maybe it could be shifted slightly up the road where there are more trees.”

Fellow resident, Ms Louise Cullen said: “I object in the strongest terms possible.

“We have proof of harm.

“To ignore this and other proof is an attack on fellow citizens and anyone allowing this should be held accountable for harming civilians.

“This is a residential area and this is inappropriate.”

Concern for businesses was also raised by one resident.

Submitting an objection online, Lucy Pinkstone said: “This will have a long-term negative impact on all businesses on the Parade that are already struggling to remain open.

“Upheaval and lack of parking will severely impact footfall and custom in the short term not to mention have this monstrosity outside many of the shops in the long term.”

But developers state widespread 5G coverage is ‘essential.’

They said: “This site will enable 5G coverage to be provided to this area of Hamble-le-Rice.

“The search area is very small for this new installation.

“The existing sites in this area of Hamble le-Rice are struggling to cope with demand and an increase in capacity is required; therefore, a new site is required to provide reliable high-quality 3G, 4G and 5G technology.”
