A man has been banned from a bar after hurling homophobic abuse at staff.

Mitchell Reece Dean has been convicted of a string of offences following a drink-fuelled incident at Medbar in Hythe.

The court heard how the 32-year-old of Harrold Close in Totton had been drinking into the early hours of the morning on November 6.

Dean then became verbally and physically abusive towards staff members at the bar.

He was detained by staff whilst the police were called, during which he aimed homophobic abuse towards them – causing alarm, harm and distress.

Upon arrival, officers searched and arrested Dean, who was found to be in possession of cannabis.

The court also heard how Dean was already subject to a Community Behaviour Order for a previous incident in July 2021, where it was found that he had racially abused and exposed his genitals to a police officer.

At Southampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Dean pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating, one count of using threatening/abusive words of behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and one count of possessing a Class B drug.

He was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and issued an exclusion order for 12 months, barring him from entering Medbar in Hythe.

The forfeiture and destruction of the seized cannabis was ordered and Dean was instructed to pay £50 compensation to both victims of the assault.

He was also required to pay £199 in court costs and victim surcharges and was issued with a renewed Community Behaviour Order.
