From great cafés to house plant and homeware sections, garden centres have become more than seeds and shrubbery in recent years.

As we enter spring, many of us are thinking about our gardens growing and what to plant.

We asked our green-fingered readers for their favourite garden centres around the Southampton area and Eastleigh.

Brambridge Park Garden Centre in Eastleigh proved to be a popular pick among readers, with one describing it as "the absolute best" on our Facebook post.

The centre offers an extensive range of gardening tools and products, including compost, fertilisers and wild bird care.

It also has its own seasonal department with a range of products suitable for your garden for that time of year.

Plus, it has its own Country House Restaurant offering hot meals and even two resident goats called Chilli and Pepper.

Haskins

Haskins in West End is a large store that offers a wide range of gardening products that will cover almost anything you need.

Additional features include its Plant Advice Centre, restaurant and dogs being allowed in the centre.

Hillier

Just a few miles outside of Southampton you can find the Hillier Garden Centre in Botley.

Mayfield Plant Nursery and Garden Centre

This plant nursery, garden centre and cafe is a multi-faceted site that will likely be able to find you most plants that you will need.

Its website says: "We stock a wide range of plants for your home and garden. If you’re looking for something specific, we may be able to order it for you, simply ask one of our friendly team!

"We also have a small, independent fresh fruit and vegetable shop on site as well as local crafts and gifts available to buy."

The Garden Society

The Garden Society was picked out 10 times on our Facebook post about the garden centres showing it to be a popular option.

Pickwell Farm

Pickwell Farm received a couple of nominations from readers, with one writing: "Pickwell Farm has a massive range of beautiful bedding plants, vegetable plants, shrubs and much more".

That description sums it up quite nicely, with a wide variety of items to buy.

Shergolds

Shergolds in West End also received a couple of nominations from readers, with it having a wide selection of plants and trees available.

Additionally, there are plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as a huge range of pet supplies and animal feed.
