A Southampton brewery has reopened just three months after going into liquidation.

Unity Brewing Co has been taken over by new owners.

In February, founder Jimmy Hatherley said the pressures of Brexit, Covid, and the cost of living resulted in debts they were "unable to recover from".

The team hosted a farewell party at the bottle shop, now renamed 'Good Libations', on Bedford Place.

But after six and a half years, a new chapter in Unity Brewing's history is about to begin.

A post shared on the company’s Instagram profile says: “It’s been a rollercoaster of events these last few months, so let me take a moment to keep you up to date with what’s happening.

“To clarify, Unity Brewing Limited went into liquidation several weeks ago.

“This was the business conceived, founded, and led by James Hatherley who is now slinging the best beer, wine and spirits out to us all at @goodlibationsshop.”

“Following the liquidation of Unity Brewing Limited, the brewery, assets and brand were purchased by two local businessmen under the new company Unity Brewery Limited.

“James is not involved in the new company in any official capacity.

“That said, it is fully the aim of the new ownership to continue what the original Unity brought to the south coast beer scene; fresh, balanced and above all approachable beer Southampton can be proud of!”

The company will continue to produce the same beers using the same brand.

The post added: “We will be using the same recipes, the same beers, and the same brand developed by James and other wonderful Unity alumni over the years.

“We will be brewing and bringing back all the favourites - especially Conflux! All with a view to making the brewery economically viable and secure for the future.”

Full-time staff under the former directorship have been "invited back", the post adds, with four out of five former employees now representing "the core of the new Unity team".
