Rishi Sunak reportedly flew from London to Southampton today on a taxpayer-funded helicopter.

The Prime Minister chose to travel in style for his pharmacy announcement in the city despite Southampton being less than 90 minutes away from the capital, the Daily Mirror reports.

Flight records show the helicopter left from RAF Northolt at 8.53am before landing at Wellington Barracks in Westminster to pick up the Prime Minister.

Mr Sunak was seen walking to the aircraft carrying a black backpack, the tabloid reports.

He landed at Southampton Airport at 9.47am.

The journey from London Waterloo to Southampton Central normally takes one hour and 20 minutes by train.

Mr Sunak visited Weston Lane Surgery where he praised the practice and the "fantastic" care their patients receive.

However, the GP partner he met said the surgery needs more government support, adding that some of the changes to be rolled out across the country, such as blood pressure checks in pharmacies rather than GP practices, have already happened at Weston Lane.

Preshan Jeevaratnam said: "I hope some of what has been announced will help ease the pressure on general practice, to enable it to deliver what only general practices can deliver.

"The reality is that we’re already delivering on things that have been announced, so across the board they are good things.

"The reality is that more needs to be done, the reality is that telephone systems are not going to be of huge value to us, we invested in a lot of these things at our own cost already so a lot of the changes will not impact us or won’t be that beneficial, but across the board on a national scale I do think a lot of these changes will be."
