A MAN has been arrested for “waving an iron bar” outside of a convenience store in Southampton.

Just before 6pm on Tuesday evening, police were called out to deal with the incident on Athelstan Road in Bitterne.

At least two police cars were spotted parked up with their blue lights flashing next to the busy junction with Bitterne Road West as officers dealt with the man.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire police told The Daily Echo: “We were called just before 6pm yesterday (Tuesday), May 23, to reports of an offensive weapon incident.

“It was reported that a man was seen waving an iron bar outside the convenience store.

“Officers attended the scene, and a 26-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at this time.”
