TWO men have been charged with murder after the death of a former New Forest cricket player.
Thomas ‘Tommy’ Lee Barton, 30, was pronounced dead following an incident in Park Road on the Isle of Wight on Sunday, May 28.
Officers and paramedics attended but Tommy, who previously played for Lymington Cricket Club, was pronounced dead while en-route to hospital.
His family is being supported by specialist officers.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “As part of our investigation 27-year-old Cameron Wayne Baker of Leed Street in Sandown and 27-year-old Rio Tyrrell Scott of Park Road in Ryde have been charged with murder.”
Both have been remanded to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 31.
A 24-year-old woman from Shanklin who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed with conditions until August 28 pending further enquiries.
Tommy played for Lymington Cricket Club’s first XI from 2007 to 2011, making Echo headlines in 2009 when he scored a triple century while playing for Ryde Cavaliers.
Paying tribute to the father of one, his family said: “The world is quieter without him in it and we will never fully recover. We are grateful for the support and love that we have received and hope you will all remember him as he was - a caring and generous man that lived his life to the maximum.”
