MARINE enthusiasts were jeering and cheering along Southamptn's waterfront for a boat race with a twist.

Those at Seawork 2023 enjoyed the annual Cardboard Craft Regatta at Mayflower Park.

It requires teams to build a boat out of cardboard and then race them against each other in the sea.

The event took place at Seawork, a week-long marine exhibition that is celebrating its 24th year.

The first race was against Seas of Solution and Landau Marine.

Dom Kingsland and Cal Leverett raced for Landau Marine with a boat shaped like a guitar.

They were dressed as Elvis and Freddy Mercury to fit the theme of kings and queens.

Dan Bailey raced for Seas of Solution on his boat HMS Fast Find.

Landau Marine came out on top after a photo finish.

The second race was between Scafloat and Elizabeth from Knighthood on her boat QE3.

The Scafloat team proved successful, winning the race by a number of seconds. The third race proved fairly dramatic with one team falling off their boat as soon as they left the finish line.

During the fourth race, the crown was riled up when a late entry took his vessel to the water.

His boat was made of plastic, rather than cardboard.

He won the race, but was serenaded with a chorus of 'boos'.
