Four days of glitter, glorious music and the odd raindrop came to a climax on Sunday night as Robbie Williams and Blondie closed the Isle of Wight Festival.

The anticipation for the Take That dropout’s set was high, particularly among ladies of a certain age, and the mum’s pin-up did not let his adoring public down.

The set was a victory lap of his greatest hits, with Rock DJ and Kids allowing him to unleash the swagger while 90s wedding staple She’s The One showed a more earnest side to his persona.

When Robbie let Angels loose on the crowd, the Main Stage temporarily turned into the world’s biggest karaoke booth as everyone had a go belting out that infamous ‘all’.

Unfortunately for me, he also included his hit single Candy, which I despise… but as it went to number one, I will give him a pass.

Robbie was playing to a warmed up crowd, as Blondie had already gotten revellers Atomic with their blistering set.

A painfully cool Debbie Harry reminded everyone present why she is an icon as she belted out Maria, Heart of Glass, The Tide is High, One Way or Another and Call Me.

Earlier on the Main Stage, up-and-coming singer Chinchilla burst some eardrums with her vocals, almost as big as the glittery top hat perched on her head.

In fact, she was so loud her voice must have reached the ears of the gods and angered them, as shortly after her set ended the heavens opened - delaying Ella Henderson’s set.

Determined to bring back the energy, the X Factor finalist bounced across the stage as she belted out a variety of dance pop hits which have given her an unusual level of post-show longevity, including Crazy What Love Can Do, 21 Reasons and React.

Another loser of the same talent competition - but winner of life - also graced the Main Stage: Niall Horan from One Direction, aka the Irish One.

While not enjoying the same stratospheric success as Harry Styles, nonetheless he had enough solo hits to fill a set - including Slow Hands - and also performed a smattering from his latest album.

Brit-winner James Bay, of long hair and fedora fame, performed a somewhat prophetic Hold Back The River, given the weather, and the terminally cheeky Mika brushed off those old classics he is known for such as Grace Kelly.

Once the dust (or mud) settles on Isle of Wight Festival 2023, I don’t think this year will be remembered as having the strongest overall line-up; but standout sets, the overall atmosphere and the connection between performers and the crowd will have created plenty of memories for festival goers travelling home today.
