FROM boats to carnival floats, there's so much to do in Southampton and the surrounding areas this weekend. 

Here's our pick of five of the best fun events to keep all the family entertained.

In Guildhall Square...

Daily Echo: Art Asia will lay on Bollywood workshops at What's Next Southampton

A free festival for children, young people and their families is set to attract a big crowd to Southampton's Cultural Quarter on Saturday. 

Visitors to What’s Next Southampton, which runs from 12 noon until 6pm, can look forward to a diverse line up of events and activities including arts, fashion and music.

Highlights will include a collaborative mural featuring doodles from local secondary schools, workshops on graffiti, Bollywood dance, music and creative writing and a fashion show celebrating the city’s vibrant youth culture through vintage clothes and streetwear.

ZoieLogic Dance Theatre will provide a free dance taster workshop plus a performance by all-male youth dance company FuzzyLogic, while members of MAST’s Musical Youth Theatre will perform a selection of well-known musical numbers.

There will be plenty of interactive workshops for guests to get involved in, such as the opportunity to step inside a light-up “brain dome” to discover how the brain works with a free workshop and performance by Theatre for Life CIC.

Art Asia will host Bollywood dance taster workshops, African Activities will bring a taste of Africa to the square with free African drumming workshops and story-telling, while the John Hansard Gallery will be running family-friendly Space to Create sessions, along with a pop-up exhibition by JHG Collective, young curators.

At Totton and Eling Carnival...

Families will line the streets of Totton on Saturday for the annual community carnival. 

The Totton and Eling Carnival parade will make its way from Calmore Industrial Estate to Eling Recreateion Ground with floats from community groups, schools and local businesses. 

Teams have been busy making their own themed floats and costumes ready to unveil them on the day. 

A number of roads will be closed for the event. 

First held in 1914, the annual celebration is described as an upbeat, family-orientated event that is close to residents’ hearts.

Aboard Steamship Shieldhall...

Southampton's award-winning Steamship Shieldhall is delighted to be staging a cruise with Black History Month South celebrating the 75th anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks in 1948.

The cruise, between 2.30pm – 6pm on Saturday, will be part of the 75th anniversary celebrations in Southampton to remember the original Windrush Pioneers, 500 of whom arrived from the Caribbean, in a moment that shaped modern Britain. The sailing will help raise awareness and public understanding of the history and many contributions of the Windrush Generation to Southampton across the decades.

On board there will be an audio/visual display, talks and commentary reflecting the history of the Windrush generation, plus some exciting live entertainment in the form of Mr Eversley’s ‘Sounds of the Caribbean’ with reggae and salsa music, and soul singer Queenie Creole Moore.

Traditional Caribbean food will also be celebrated, with K&J Caribbean Catering providing a buffet consisting of curry mutton; jerk chicken; saltfish and callaloo; rice and peas; plain rice and fried plantain. The buffet can be washed down with purchases of Red Stripe beer; ginger beer and fruit and rum punches.

In Fareham...

Daily Echo: Vintage vehicles will be part of the 999 Day in Fareham

It's back! Join us on West Street, Fareham 10am-4pm to meet your local emergency services for a fun-filled day!

Lots of local emergency service heroes will be in attendance including the Police, Fire service, South Coast Ambulance Service, RNLI, Hampshire Search and Rescue, Coastguard and much more. Come and learn about what they do and how they save lives. There will even be retired emergency vehicles!

There will be free arts and crafts provided by Creation Station. 

Take a break from the event at Westbury Manor Museum's cafe, whilst your child carries on the fun with some emergency services themed colouring.

Fareham Library will also be hosting free 999 themed crafts and have a range of emergency services books.

At Bursledon Brickworks...

Daily Echo: A steam event will take place at Bursledon Brickworks on Sunday

During the hot summer months the brickmakers laid their bricks outside to dry before firing. Come and celebrate the mark of mid-summer on Sunday at the museum's June steam event. 

The Red Stags Morris Dancers and the Rock-a-Fellas Band, who play popular hits froms the 50s to the 80s, will entertain audiences.

There will be Beekeepers, and you can try your hand at a traditional coconut shy.

Outside will be the heritage buses, the Mini Car Club, and train rides on the Museum railway for a small extra fee.

Inside the Museum you can explore the South Coast Modellers display; very tiny railway layouts; craft & gift stalls including lacemaking, jams, fused glassware, cards, pottery & felt work, jewellery and wax melts.

THe Brickworks machinery will be in steam, the vintage arcade will be on and both children’s play areas will be open between 11am and 4pm.
