MAYFLOWER Park will be closed today and tomorrow after a marquee collapsed injuring three people.

Southampton City Council has confirmed that the park will be closed for two days following the incident this morning.

Three people suffered injuries and one person was taken to hospital.

Police, the fire service, and paramedics were on the scene earlier today.

Neptunus, the contracted company to supply the marquee structure, has now launched an enquiry to determine the cause of the incident.

The 50m Alu Hall temporary structure collapsed this morning while technicians were dismantling it.

The marquee was up as part of the Seawork marine exhibition, which ran last week.

A spokesman for Neptunus said: “The Alu Hall has an impeccable safety record and is one of the most popular structures in our range.

"It has been used extensively and successfully at hundreds of global events and exhibitions over the years.

"Our technicians were in the dismantling process when the collapse occurred. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause.”
