A TOTAL of 350 competitors took the opportunity to 'run the runway' to raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace, local hospices for children and young adults.

The inaugural Solent Airport 5k offered the participants a unique opportunity to beat their personal best on a flat, straight and smooth stretch of asphalt at Lee-on-the-Solent.

The event has raised £6,000 to help fund the vital services provided by the hospices, at Sutton Scotney, near Winchester

Participants were awarded medals by Fareham's Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Fred Birkett and his wife Lisa.

The even terrain of the runway provided an advantage for the athletes, resulting in numerous individuals achieving their personal best times.
