IT'S the art deco style speakeasy hidden high above the High Street with beautiful views of Southampton's parks.

1932, in Above Bar Street, is best known for bespoke cocktails, service buttons under the tables, and the masterclasses it hosts.

The stylish bar is entered via a non descript door from Above Bar Street, and boasts stunning decor and a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

Szymon Jerzy Wojtylak, known as Simon, has been working at 1932 since 2019 and managing it for the past year.

He told the Daily Echo about some of his most memorable moments at the bar: "I was able to make a cocktail for an elderly lady who asked for a 'Martini with a cherry'. I asked if she meant Martinez, a very old classic cocktail, after tailoring what I thought would best match her description. She told me that the Martinez cocktail 'brought her back to her early 20's'.

"Another memorable moment was serving Chris Packam and his daughter. We ended up having a conversation about cocktails and photography. He complimented the cocktails and atmosphere.

"The best thing about running a bar like 1932 is the creative freedom, from creating themed bespoke cocktails, to designing the menu or taking photographs for social media. Seeing people try our cocktails and hearing all the praise."

Daily Echo: Inside 1932

1932 became Southampton's first speakeasy style venue five years ago. Owner Richard Gilbert had a love of freshly made cocktails with quality ingredients and great service and saw a gap in the market for a venue providing all three.

The menu features a variety of signature, themed and special cocktails, a selection of gin and tonics, nibbles, wines and mocktails.

The most popular cocktails are the Diana, a Mojito style cocktail with Polish bison grass vodka, the smooth and sweet strawberry and rose cocktail Venus and Cherokee, a creamy coconut and mango delight and 1932's take on a Pina Colada created by mixologist Dan.

Popular masterclasses are an opportunity to learn how to make 1932's bespoke cocktails at home.

Special offers include the after work club, offering two for one cocktails between 5pm and 7pm Monday to Friday and 12pm to 5pm on Saturdays.

Thursday Martinis includes two hours of bottomless Martinis, with 21 drinks to choose from, for £20 per person.
