ROADWORKS will completely close Redbridge Causeway eastbound for three weekends from tonight (Friday).

Drivers travelling from Totton and the New Forest into Southampton via the A35 at Redbridge will have to take a diversion along the M27, passing close to Paultons Park.

The closure of both eastbound lanes will start at 8pm on Fridays July 7, 14 and 21 and continue until 6am the following Mondays.

The £25 million four-bridge refurbishment project over the River Test has seen months of delays and disruption for motorists. It is due to be completed by November.

The full closures are needed for work that can only be completed on a traffic-free road.

Lane one of the westbound A35 will also be closed from the Totton slip road to the emergency access to Eling Wharf. Temporary traffic lights will be in place for HGVs from Eling Wharf to safely access the westbound carriageway.

The concrete structures supporting the causeway, which are 50 to 90 years old, carry up to 60,000 vehicles every day.
