THE planned closure of Redbridge Causeway eastbound this weekend has been called off.
Motorists travelling from Totton and the New Forest into Southampton via the A35 at Redbridge were due to have to take a diversion along the M27 from Friday night (July 14) until Monday (July 17), as they did last weekend.
But speedy progress during last weekend's closure means the causeway will now be open to traffic this weekend and next.
Lane 2 on the eastbound A35 will be closed from the approach to the Totton on-slip until the start of of the off-slip to Redbridge roundabout until the resurfacing has been completed. Both the Totton on-slip and the off-slip to Redbridge Roundabout will remain open.
The £25 million four-bridge refurbishment project over the River Test has seen months of delays and disruption for motorists. It is due to be completed by November.
The concrete structures supporting the causeway, which are 50 to 90 years old, carry up to 60,000 vehicles every day.
