A SOUTHAMPTON takeout with "dirty floors" has been given a damning hygiene rating.

Curry House on Spring Road has been given a food hygiene rating on one-out-of-five.

The rating comes after an inspection carried out by Southampton City Council.

It revealed that the restaurant had "dirty floors, door frames and windowsills" at the time of the inspection.

The inspection was carried out on May 12 and was published in June.

In a report, seen by the Daily Echo, inspectors said that "urgent improvement" was needed".

The inspection found that the cooling system in the restaurant "needs to be reviewed".

Several containers of uncovered food were cooling in the rear, the report said.

The rear door to the outside was open and no fly screen was fitted, which inspectors said was a "potential for contamination of foods".

Inspectors said that all foods should be in a sealed box or covered after cooked poppadoms were found being stored in open boxes above fridges and shelving.

A broken window was discovered and the report claims that there was "no attempt" to cover the damage so as to minimise pieces breaking off that "could contaminate food".

The glazed wall was also damaged, but this had been covered by tape and cardboard.

Inspectors found that there was a "build-up of debris" on the "dirty" floor and that pipes were "dirty with food debris and a build-up of dirt".

The windowsills by the washing up area were also "dirty".

The report describes the doorframes and the leading edges of the doors were "dirty" where they had been opened by hand.

Inspectors said this indicates a "lack of hand washing".

Concerns were also raised that there was no allergen information printed on the menu.

The Daily Echo has contacted Curry House and is waiting for a response.
