Nothing screams Barbie quite like a massive pink burger.

The hotly anticipated Barbie bursts onto cinema screens in a splash of pink on Friday.

The film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has inspired the creation of several fuschia-hued foods – and a Southampton café is no exception.

Vegan institution Café Thrive has ‘turned its specials menu pink’ in celebration of the upcoming film release.

Included in the bright menu is a toweringly impressive Barbie burger – a vegan 'meaty' patty topped with pickled pink onions, pink garlic mayo, beetroot hummus and hash brown in a bright pink bun.

Café owner Sarah Abbott said: “We are all excited here to see the new film coming out this weekend and have planned a staff outing to see it next week when we are all off together.

“So, we thought what better way to celebrate than turning our specials menu pink with Barbie themed specials all week long.”

For those opting for a healthier Barbie-inspired meal, Café Thrive is offering a Pink dream Bowl, consisting of fresh salad, watermelon, stripey pink beetroot, beetroot hummus, radish, lentil 'tofu', black sesame seeds and a ‘dreamy pink’ miso dressing.

‘We’re doing Ken Wedges, which much like Ken are just that and nothing much more’, Sarah added.

She said: “Our customers seem pretty excited to try the new specials too, tagging each other in our posts and planning a trip to us to coincide with their trips to the cinema.

“Our staff are joining in the fun wearing Barbie inspired outfits to work and dying their hair pink.”

Café Thrive, in Hanover Buildings, is open every day from 10am, excluding Wednesdays.
