A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found in his Southampton flat.

Weber Nogueira, 54, was found dead at his home in Channel Way, Ocean Village, on March 22, which resulted in the police launching a public appeal for information.

Though at the time Mr Nogueira’s death was treated as “unexplained”, four months on the force has confirmed a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.

Police confirmed that the man in question was arrested on April 2, a little over a week after Mr Nogueira’s body was found at his home.

He has been bailed until October 2 while officers continue to investigate what happened.

Following Mr Nogueira’s death, Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy, deputy district commander for Southampton, said: “This incident will no doubt cause concern in the community.

“I would like to reassure residents that we are working hard to understand the circumstances surrounding Mr Nogueira’s death and there is no known risk to the wider community at this time.”
