WITH Southampton Running Festival July beginning and ending on Southampton Common this weekend, the Echo looks back at other races to have taken place there.
Aside from the big events such as Race for Life, Pretty Muddy and the usual Parkrun - the races pictured here were a little different than most. Whacky races if you like!
Pictured is a 'Wheelbarrow Grand Prix' that took place on October 16, 1989, as well as a Scouts pancake race on February 11, 1978.
Two pictures, both of which were taken on October 3, 1987, show the common being used for a walking race.
Do you remember seeing any of these?
