Police have found a body of a Hampshire man who went missing over a year ago.

Grant Maddocks, 52, disappeared from Winchester on August 5 last year.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said he was last seen in the Romsey Road area at 6.15pm on Friday, August 5.

Shortly before, CCTV picked him up walking along Badger Farm Road in a black vest top, blue jeans and dark footwear.

At the time, a spokesperson for the force said: "Together with Grant’s family we are very concerned for his welfare and are asking anyone who has seen him since he went missing, or anyone who thinks they might know where he is, to call us immediately.

"If you see Grant, please call 999."

Police described Grant as 6ft 3ins tall, of slim build and with short blond/brown hair.

However, police have today (9 August) said they have identified a body as Mr Maddocks, just over a year after his last sighting.

A police spokesman said: “A body found as part of our search for missing Grant Maddocks has now been confirmed as his as part of our formal identification processes.

“His family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The Echo's sister paper the Hampshire Chronicle asked when and where the body was found, but the police said it would be dealt with by the coroner at an inquest.
