A NEW Indian restaurant has opened in Southampton promising traditional tastes with a modern twist.

Restaurant owner Ravi Rao said that his restaurant Lazzeez, in The Avenue, has a menu that ranges from the nation's traditional curry favourites to its own signature dishes.

Ravi added: "The city is full of people from all around the world and I want to bring them an Indian cuisine that is truly unique.

"Southampton is a great city and that is why I knew it would be the right city for Lazzeez.

"We offer a range of unique street foods to serve alongside our unique curry dishes. All our dishes come from traditional classics, with our own personal, modern touch."

Ravi said that one dish he would recommend to every customer is lamb Rogan Josh for its unique taste.

He added: "All our dishes have a wide range of spice, flavour and texture - there is something for everyone on our menu."

Ravi graduated with a degree in hotel management in India and began a career with Taj Hotels India. He then went on to work in the hotel industry in Dubai.

After moving to the UK 21 years ago, Ravi worked as head chef in more than 12 restaurants as well as gaining experience working in Michelin-star kitchens.

He then decided to open two restaurants in the Midlands that he operated for six years.

Ravi added: "I decided to move to Southampton as it has a thriving business community, whereas my previous restaurants were located in small rural areas.

"It is also a stunning seafront city with a lot of different cultural restaurants and venues.

The Lazzeez's owner is also connected with Southampton community radio station, Unity 101, where he takes part in cookery talks and recipes.

The restaurant's dishes are also available for collection and cater for all dietary requirements.
