The tastes of Jamaica and Trinidad are to hit Bedford Place as a new Caribbean takeaway has opened for business.

Caribbean Spice & Jerk opened for the first time on Monday offering a selection of signature Caribbean meals.

Owner Kymarni Constable, 19, said: "We have chefs from Jamaica and Trinidad that all bring their own signature style to every dish. The area is thriving and full of life and we want to bring Bedford Place a taste of the Caribbean.

"What makes our food stand out is the fact that we incorporate tastes and flavours from all over the Caribbean and our dishes are made completely from scratch.

"Caribbean Spice & Jerk is a restaurant that me and my dad thought of after we decided that Southampton didn't have enough Caribbean spice.

"Even though the city is full of culture and diversity, we felt that there was a real lack of Caribbean food venues."

Kymarni used to have a similar Caribbean venue on St Mary's Street but decided to move to Bedford Place as there is a much more business opportunity.

He said people that visit Southampton for the day often come to Bedford Place, looking for a cultural place to get a bite to eat.

He added: "People come to Bedford Place looking for authentic, quality flavours and we are here to provide that.

"All our dishes and recipes are our own and we make our own sauces ourselves with all different spices from across the Caribbean. If people are looking for food that is cultural and delicious, then they need to try us out.

"We do have a vegetarian dish and are looking to expand our menu to cater for all sorts of diary requirements. We do ask that if anyone has dietary requirements, that they let us know before they order."

The menu consists of a range of dishes available in medium for £8, or large for £10.
