LOVE had the world in motion as England reached the semi-final of the World Cup in 1990.

At the Italia '90s semi-final, England faced West Germany with the odds stacked heavily against them, yet their performance equalled that of their more highly seeded opponents.

Andreas Brehme's attempt at goal opened the scoring, as his shot deflected off  Paul Parker on the 60-minute mark.

With the clock ticking and time running out, Gary Lineker answered the call for his country, netting an equaliser and ensuring extra time just ten minutes from the end.

Neither side could conjure up any goals during extra time, so England and West Germany took the match to a penalty shootout.

West Germany’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with for penalties was huge.

The penalty shoot-out between West Germany and England did not go as planned for the English side, with Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle both missing their shots.

The win took West Germany through to the final with Argentina, which they won.
