An eight-year-old Southampton schoolgirl has had her long locks chopped off for a good cause.

Beth Iszatt, from Bitterne Park, had 30cm of hair cut, which will be used for a real hair wig for a child undergoing cancer treatment or suffering from alopecia or other conditions.

The Bitterne Park Primary School pupil has also raised £684 for the Little Princess Trust.

Beth, who is now sporting a short bob after always previously having long hair, told the Daily Echo: "A while ago, I decided to grow my hair long for charity, so that children who have had cancer or treatment can wear my hair as a wig.

"I am really happy that these boys and girls can have hair just like me!

"It took ages to grow my hair, but finally I had my big trim on Sunday! My lovely hairdresser Paige carefully cut my hair and we got 30cm! I now have a very short bob – it's very different, but I love it already!

"We then packaged it up and sent it to the charity.

"So far, through kind and generous donations, we have managed to raise £684, which will pay for a wig to made for a child!

"I am really proud that I have been able to raise so much money that will help other children!"

Daily Echo: Eight-year-old Beth Iszatt had her long locks cut in aid of The Princess Trust

The Little Princess Trust was established by the parents of Hannah Tarplee, their friends and Hereford Cathedral Junior School.

Hannah, who was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour in 2004, loved her hair and found losing it very traumatic. Her parents Wendy and Simon, searched high and low and found a wig which had a positive effect on her.

Hannah passed away in 2005 and with so many kind offers of financial and practical help, Wendy and Simon felt the most fitting tribute would be to launch a charity dedicated to providing real hair wigs for children and young people.

Since then, The Little Princess Trust has provided thousands of real hair wigs to children and young people, aged up to 24, across the UK and Ireland. Links have also been made with salons in Sweden, Bulgaria, Portugal and Germany.
