A diesel thief who drove off whilst banned and without insurance has been jailed. 

Mark Hughes of Battery Hill, Bishops Waltham was jailed for 10 weeks after admitting to 15 offences. 

Appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on September 14, he was also given a 44-month driving ban.

Hughes, 49, pleaded guilty to charges of:

  • One count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of driving without insurance in Fareham Road, Wickham, on November 28, 2022.
  • Making off without payment, after taking £85.60 worth of diesel from a service station in Fareham Road, Wickham on November 28, 2022.
  • One count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of driving without insurance in Station Hill, Curdridge, on January 15 this year.
  • Making off without payment, after taking £60.49 worth of diesel from a service station in Station Hill, Curdridge on January 15.
  • One count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of driving without insurance in Station Hill, Curdridge, on January 17 this year.
  • Making off without payment, after taking £88.75 worth of diesel from a service station in Station Hill, Curdridge on January 17.
  • One count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of driving without insurance in Station Hill, Curdridge, on January 25 this year.
  • Making off without payment, after taking £79.71 worth of diesel from a service station in Station Hill, Curdridge on January 25.
  • One count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of driving without insurance in Station Hill, Curdridge, on January 29 this year.
  • Making off without payment, after taking £31.41 worth of diesel from a service station in Station Hill, Curdridge on January 29.
