The trial of a man accused of having sex with a dog has been pushed back by six months.

Terrence Bennett is alleged to have caused the dog unnecessary suffering.

It is said that he was holding it and "thrusting into the rear of it in a sexual motion".

The 66-year-old of Cornwell Close, Gosport, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court today for his trial.

But the case was adjourned after it was said that a witness's dog, which is not involved in the allegation, had died meaning the witness could not attend.

Speaking to magistrates, Bennett said the allegations are "not true", adding: "None of it is true."

It comes after police were called to reports of a "man having sex with a dog" in Cornwell Close, Gosport, at around 8pm on October 27 in 2021.

The dog was seized and taken into the care of kennels.

Bennett was given unconditional bail to appear at the same court on April 8 for the rearranged trial.

He denies the charge.
