A busy level crossing at the centre of ongoing roadworks is set to close for works next month.

The level crossing on Adelaide Road in Southampton will be occasionally shut to traffic in November due to works by Network Rail.

This means that while works are taking place motorists won't be able to be use it as a diversion route for the ongoing Priory Road roadworks.

However, Southampton City Council has confirmed the southern section of the closure at the junction of Priory Road will be reopened to traffic from St Denys Road in the absence of the diversion route.

The northern closure will remain in place so traffic will only be able to turn left or right onto St Denys Road and not straight ahead.

A spokesperson from Southampton City Council said: “Please be aware that we will still have barriers or fencing around our works areas on Priory Road, and traffic lights may be in operation to keep the junction safe.”
