Southampton holidaymakers are in for a treat as two new easyJet routes are set to launch next year.

Flights to Alicante in Spain and Faro in Portugal will start in summer 2024 giving passengers even more choice for their holiday destinations.

Fares to Alicante will start from £23.99 while fares to the capital of Portugal’s Algarve region will start from £47.99.

The budget airline will also offer package holidays for the new routes, which are its first-ever beach destinations from Southampton, from £425 per person (based on two adults and seven- night stay).

Flights to Spain’s coastal city will launch on March 31 and operate throughout the summer once a week on a Sunday while flights to Faro will launch on June 6 and operate once a week on a Thursday throughout the peak summer season.

The announcement comes after Southampton Airport unveiled the extension to its runway in September which Eastleigh MP Paul Holmes said would “unlock potential” to include more airlines flying to new destinations.

Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK Country Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be launching two new routes from Southampton, providing our customers in the south of England even more choice when booking their summer holiday, and convenience with direct connectivity to Europe’s most popular beach destinations whether they’re planning a holiday to Spain’s sunny coast or Portugal’s Algarve region.”

Matt Hazelwood, Chief Commercial Officer at AGS Airports, which owns Southampton Airport said: “The introduction of these two services to Faro and Alicante by easyJet is brilliant news for the airport, city and wider region.

“We embarked on our recently completed runway extension project to ensure the future viability of the airport. Attracting more routes and services to Southampton is key to the airport’s future success and I am pleased to see that our plans are beginning to bear fruit.

“These two services will deliver even greater choice and flexibility for our customers and are hopefully just the first of many to arrive at Southampton Airport.”
