From poppy parades to fantastic films, there's plenty to do with the family this weekend. 

From remembering the fallen to celebrating cinema, here are our five top event picks for Saturday and Sunday November 11 and 12.

Remembrance Day...

Daily Echo: Remembrance Day 2023

Thousands across Hampshire are set to gather and lay wreathes this weekend to honour those who have died in conflicts around the world.

Members of the military and veterans will parade through the streets for Armistice Day (Saturday November 11) and Remembrance Sunday (November 12).

Services will be taking place across the county with residents, members of the armed forces and politicians all wearing poppies 105 years on from the end of World War One.

In Southampton, The Remembrance Sunday service will take place between 10.30am and midday. The service will start in Watts Park at 10.55am.

It will be preceded by a military and veterans parade from Guildhall Square to the Cenotaph and the Lord Mayor's Civic Procession.

Volunteers from the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal will be at the gazebo in the park with traditional and silk poppies, wooden crosses and lapel pins.

Enjoy performances from Abanti Chakrabarty, Art Asia Bollywood Dance, Art Asia Kathak, Art Asia Singing, Balvikas, Dalia's Bengali Group, Dholl Drumming, Kerala Girl's Group, Niharika, Pooja Rajguru, Rakhi Sood's Students Group and Vedic Society Garba Group.

Join in with activities including a Diwali art workshop, diya and lantern making, a henna workshop and rangoli workshop.

A spectacular Diwali parade will end the day. 

At Southampton Film Week...

Expect a spectacular celebration of cinema as Southampton Film Week returns for its 16th outing this weekend. 

The event, which runs from Friday (November 10) to Sunday November 19, promises screenings, workshops, quizzes, talks, and masterclasses, sprinkled with timeless classics and a few surprises!

At Southampton Arts and Humanities Festival...

Daily Echo: A previous Southampton Arts and Humanities Festival

From hieroglyphics, to archaeology Minecraft, and from a digital igloo, to snakes and ladders, ten days of arts and humanities activities, culminating in a free family fun day, are taking place at the University of Southampton.

The Southampton Arts and Humanities Festival is underway with the final event being Hands-On Humanities Day at the university’s Avenue Campus on Saturday November 18.

The festival has been running since 2014 and is held every year to coincide with the UK-wide Being Human Festival.

This year, the Southampton event features live discussion events including an AI-themed evening with a screening of the 2013 film Her; the BBC’s Bob Harris and music journalist Colin Hall discussing The Songs the Beatles Gave Away; and prison arts charity Koestler Arts and university researchers will be discussing new artwork by the charity.

At Fort Nelson...

Daily Echo: Remembrance Weekend at Fort Nelson

Remembrance Weekend with be marked with a commemorative gun firing at 11am at Fort Nelson.

On both Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday, a gun will be fired at 11am to mark the start and end of a national two minute silence.

The silence will be followed by a performance of 'When the guns stopped firing' on the Parade Ground of the Victorian fort, which will be repeated at 12.30pm each day.

The Garrison Artillery Volunteers will fire the artillery during the weekend event - an 18 pounder field gun on Saturday and a 25 pounder field gun on Sunday.

Time Will Tell Theatre company will also give three performances of 'Letters Home', which is the story of how two billion letters were sorted, carried, and delivered by the Post Office during the war years.
