A number of roads and bus stops are set to close in Southampton as hundreds gather for Remembrance Sunday.

Road closures will be in place between 7am and 2pm on Sunday as a military and veteran parade makes its way to the Cenotaph in Watts Park.

West Marlands Road and Gibbs Road will close along their entire length.

There will be further closures on Commercial Road from its junction at Havelock Road to Above Bar Street.

Above Bar Street will be shut from its junction at New Road and Civic Centre Road to its junction at Brunswick Place.

Bus stops on Above Bar Street near the Cenotaph and on Commercial Road near the library and art gallery will not be in use between 7am and 2pm.

The Remembrance Sunday service will take place between 10.30am and midday and will involve a military and veterans parade from Guildhall Square to the Cenotaph and the Lord Mayor's Civic Procession.

There will be a pre-organised wreath-laying session at the Cenotaph within the service followed by a public wreath-laying section.

Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Valerie Laurent, said: “Remembrance is an opportunity for the city to come together and give thanks to all serving troops, both past and present and of course their families. Please do join us at the Cenotaph if you are able.”

Archie Parsons from Southampton Royal British Legion added: “On Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, we reflect and give thanks to all those that played their part in bringing peace and those who helped to re-build our great city to what it is today."
