A man has appeared in court accused of burglary, criminal damage and assault in Romsey and the New Forest.

James Robert Wood, 33 appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court yesterday morning after he was charged with nine offences. 

Wood of Cutforth Way, Romsey is accused of five burglaries in the New Forest and Romsey. 

He is also charged with assault by beating, two thefts from motor vehicles and criminal damage.

He has now been remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Crown Court on January 8.

It follows his arrest at in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incidents were reported to police between March and November.

Wood is charged with:

- Two burglaries in Godshill, reported on Monday 20 November.

- Assault by beating in Romsey, reported on Monday 20 November.

- Burglary in Romsey, reported on Monday 20 November.

- Criminal damage in Fordingbridge, reported on Monday 20 November.

- Burglary in Brook, reported on Saturday 18 November.

- Two thefts from motor vehicles in Fordingbridge and Godshill, reported on Sunday 20 August.

- Burglary in North Gorley, reported on Monday 20 March.
