Staff, pupils and parents at Bartley C of E Primary School were delighted after receiving great feedback from a recent Ofsted inspection.

The school in Windsor Road, Bartley, received a rating of ‘good’ and staff were overjoyed by the positive findings in the report of the inspection on November 15 and 16.

The report described the primary school as ‘inclusive and aspirational’, spotlighted the team’s leadership and its expertise in pastoral care, which is one of the school’s top priorities.

Thrilled with the results, Headteacher Karen Stonehouse considered the final report an ‘excellent and honest assessment of what the school provides for its students on a daily basis'.

She said: “I think it validates the journey that we've been on to make sure that it is consistent, everyday practice that we're doing all the time for our children.”

Some members of staff brought to tears over the inspector's kind words, Karen said.

“We felt it was just what we do every day", she added. "We don't think we're any more special than anyone else.”

The school was praised for its ‘warm, positive, and supportive’ relationships between staff and its 358 pupils, and a ‘broad and engaging’ learning environment.

The report also noted how much parents appreciate the school's hard work and ‘family feel’.

According to the report, one parent said 'staff go out of their way to know all the pupils in the school and to nurture their educational and personal development'.

But the report also noted that in subjects other than maths and English, assessment is not yet fully developed and staff 'do not consistently identify and address gaps in pupils' knowledge'.

The school was last fully inspected in June 2014, where it was also rated good, and a short inspection in 2018 showed standards had not slipped.

Almost 10 years on, and the staff and pupil's hard work is still paying off.

Karen said: “We are enormously proud of every member of our school family who consistently work with us to provide the absolute best for our children.”
