Southampton has been revealed as one of the most expensive cities to live alone in the UK, according to new research.

It manages to be cheaper than some of the more obvious culprits such as London and Edinburgh, but it still places in eighth place in the top 10.

At an average cost of £1,568 per month for rent, utilities and bills, Southampton is judged to be more expensive than the likes of Glasgow and Liverpool to live alone.

The research from Stokemont found that there was somewhat of a north-south divide between the most expensive and cheapest cities to live in the UK.

However, some northern cities such as Leeds and Newcastle still ranked quite highly.

Stokemont analysed the rent and utility costs of the 20 biggest cities in the UK to create their table, Metro reports.
