A West End weight loss group has raised money for blind children this Christmas.

Kay Godwin, 54, runs the Slimming World Group at the Hilldene Centre in West End and has been working to raise money to get presents to blind children in Hampshire.

She and her team of roughly 200 members from six different weight loss groups have banded together to raise money for Open Sight Hampshire.

The group raised an impressive £550 to be spent on hampers and presents for those using the charity's services.

Based in Eastleigh, Open Sight supports young people and families who are experiencing the effects of sight loss.

Kay said: “This was a brilliant opportunity to use the power of the group to bring some special gifts to the families supported by Open Sight Hampshire.

“Since October, we have been collecting pennies to add into our collection bucket. Members have been adding the coins they can spare into the pot.

“This made sure we could keep it affordable to members whilst sharing the Christmas spirit with those families supported by Open Sight.

“Slimming World does a lot of work with national charities such as Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s Research UK, but we wanted to bring this closer to home."

Kay and her Slimming World group members have raised money for the blindness charity for the past three years.

She added: “One of my group members, Debbie Ross, works for Open Sight Hampshire – and for the past three years we have helped her raise money.

"We knew this would be another great opportunity to get some special gifts to some of the families she and her team work with.”

In a letter of appreciation, sent to Kay and her group members, Debbie and her team at Open Sight personally thanked the group for its Remarkable donations.

Acting CEO of Open Sight Hampshire, Debbie said: “Your donations played a crucial role in providing Christmas food hampers to families with visually impaired children.

“Additionally, it allowed us to purchase thoughtful gifts for the children, enhancing the joy of Christmas.”
