Saints romped to one of their best top-flight victories almost 40 years ago.
And remarkably the hosts to Saints this evening, Coventry City, were the same club who were on the receiving end of an 8-2 Dell battering on April 28 1984.
Both Danny Wallace and Steve Moran scored hat-tricks, with David Armstrong and Frank Worthington also hitting the back of the net and getting in the scoring sheet.
Only once in post-war football, that’s more than 77 seasons, have Saints scored more goals in a league match.
That was the club’s record win in September 1965 when Martin Chivers netted four times in an 9-3 Dell win against Wolves.
