A man has died following a serious crash on the M27.

Officers were called shortly before 5pm yesterday to a report of a crash on the hard shoulder of the M27 eastbound, between junctions 11 and 12.

The incident involved a blue Nissan Juke which collided with a grey Ford Focus.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver of the Nissan, a man in his 60s from Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident led to the M27 being closed for several hours, causing tailbacks on the motorway to Fareham and beyond and affecting drivers across the county.

Officers investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone who was on the M27 at the time and saw what happened, or saw the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the incident.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone with dash cam footage that may have captured something.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting the reference 44240006859/Op Mainhaul.
