The City Council is warning residents about icy road conditions in the coming days as it deploys road gritters around Southampton.
Through the council’s travel page on X, formerly known as Twitter, a spokesperson for the council said: “Due to expected cold temperatures this evening, our gritters will be out treating priority routes from 3pm.”
It comes as Southampton is expected to be bitterly cold with Monday seeing temperatures as low as minus three degrees.
This follows a national trend of extremely cold temperatures across the UK, with yellow weather warnings for ice and snow being issued by the Met Office.
The council monitors daily weather forecasts and road conditions to enable it to decide when precautionary salting is required.
