A Test Valley village could be set to have 14 more homes if plans are approved.

The major scheme, which includes 10 custom builds and four first homes, is for land at Spencer's Farm, Stockbridge Road, King's Somborne.

The planning documents say five three-bed, five four-bed, and four two-bed homes will be built.

By Tuesday, January 9, one public objection had been submitted to Test Valley Borough Council.

John Young, of Muss Lane, said: “I seriously object to this development, several reasons, firstly, this alters the approach view to the ancient village of King's Somborne, in a conservation area.

“The Stockbridge Road approach to King's Somborne along the A3057, is a hazardous area, speed limit changes from National Limit to 30mph, at the very point of the access to this proposed site.

“The roads are narrow at that point of access, the potential for collisions will be greatly increased due to that junction.

Daily Echo: Current site

“This is considered urban sprawl, there is no need for custom build homes in the village, there is however a need for affordable housing within the village to maintain a healthy number of young families, for pupils at the local school.

“The view for the inhabitants of Muss Lane, and Riverside Green will be seriously impacted, this would be seen as blocking residents in.

“My wife and I moved to our current property as it enjoys uninterrupted views across open fields, this development will raise my stress and anxiety levels, seriously impacting on my health and wellbeing.”

The planning statement from Andy Morris, of developer Moonriver said: “The proposed development seeks permission for the siting of 14 dwellings and garages, access road, drainage and landscaping on land identified for development in the adopted King’s Somborne Neighbourhood Plan.

“The layout proposes a footpath and cycle link to Muss Lane.

"This point of access affords links either to the north towards the recreation area or southwards towards the centre of the village.

“The main access into the site from Stockbridge Road curves gently downhill and is lined with a hedge on its northeastern side. Views into the development site from Stockbridge Road will not be possible.

“Land at Spencer’s Farm, King’s Somborne has been robustly assessed in terms of its planning, environmental and physical context.

“It has been shown that the site is suitable to accommodate housing development to meet the borough’s identified needs.

“The analysis of the site and the proposal demonstrated how a well-designed, high quality development of up to 14 homes can be achieved, responding to the context of the site.”
