A dead deer found tied by its back legs to a tree has sparked a police appeal.

The animal was discovered in Eling Recreation Ground on the morning of January 12.

Officers have been investigating the shocking incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

Witnesses are now being asked to come forward.

PC Pimbblet, of Lyndhurst District Policing Team, said: “We understand that this would have been a disturbing incident for those walking through the park, but please be assured that the incident is being investigated by local officers.

“If you saw anything suspicious in the area between Thursday evening (January 11) and Friday morning (January 12), including people and vehicles, please contact 101 and quote incident number 44240016724.

“You can also report online via the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary website.

“Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

Totton residents shared their shock at the distressing discovery.

Dog walker Clare Murphy told the Echo: “It was very upsetting to come across.

“We don't have deer in Eling so someone must have travelled in a vehicle to put it there.

“Hopefully the person will be caught for senseless killing.”
