A coastguard and helicopter search was launched last night after a woman was seen in the River Itchen.
The alarm was raised at around 8.30pm when the woman was spotted near Saltmead.
Coastguard crews from Hill Head and Portsmouth were called out.
A search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent was also dispatched to help with operations and was seen circling above Riverside Park and the Portswood area.
The woman was rescued at Calshot from the RNLI's inshore lifeboat.
She was passed into the care of paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.
Hamble Lifeboat was also alerted as were Hampshire police and the fire brigade.
