A HGV driver on their way to Europe has been arrested by police on the M3 following an encounter officers described as 'terrifying'.

Officers from the Hampshire Roads Policing Unit were out on patrol when the huge lorry was reported to police for being driven 'poorly'.

This was on the stretch of motorway near Winchester.

Police caught up to the driver and stopped the vehicle.

He was made to do a roadside breath test - and was 3.5 times the legal limit for alcohol.

The man was subsequently arrested.

The officer who tweeted branded the encounter, which took place on Thursday, as 'terrifying', adding: "He's now going to custody instead of his planned destination on the continent."
