An attempted murder probe has been launched after a woman was found injured in Southampton.

Police descended upon Hill Lane and later Cracknore Road in the early hours of this morning.

It follows reports that a woman was injured during an altercation.

What happened?

Officers were called to an altercation inside an address in Hill Lane at 4.45am today.

A woman in her 50s was found a short time later with a serious injury to her arm and was taken to hospital.

Officers later cordoned off a car in Cracknore Road, Freemantle.

The black Vauxhall Corsa was parked outside the Key & Anchor but has since been towed away.

It forms part of the police investigation but it's unclear whether the woman was found there.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department were at the scene on Hill Lane, Milton Road and Wilton Avenue today.

Arrests made

Officers investigating the incident arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man from Southampton is being questioned in custody.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “A 46-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

"Police remain at the scene this morning conducting enquiries.

"At the current time we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public."

Enquiries continue

Police remain at the scene today carrying out enquiries into the incident.

Questions remain as to where the woman was found and what weapon was used in the attack.

The relationship between the victim and the attempted murder suspect is also unknown at this stage.

Officers have been carrying out enquiries in Milton Road, at the junction with Hill Lane.

A sniffer dog was also at the scene.
