A child has been taken to hospital after a car flipped onto its roof during a crash in Gosport town centre. 

Members of the public rushed to the aid of those inside the vehicle, including a young child, after the incident on Stoke Road, Gosport yesterday. 

Emergency services arrived and closed the road.

The driver and child were offered chairs to sit on and glasses of water with one business allowing them inside to get out of the cold.

The incident took place at around 5.52pm.

Photos of the incident show the car on its roof in the centre of the street with police standing nearby.

No injuries were found to either the driver or the child. 

The youngster was taken to hospital as a precaution. 

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Gosport has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving. 

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
