A firearm has been seized on a Southampton street as part of an investigation into a serious assault. 

Officers seized the weapon on Milton Road on Thursday, February 1. 

It follows an incident on Hill Lane on Tuesday which saw a woman in her 50s suffer a serious injury to her arm. 

Delroy Smith, of Hill Lane, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. 

Smith will next appear at Southampton Crown Court on March 1 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “As part of our ongoing enquiries into the serious assault of a woman on Hill Lane on Tuesday, officers recovered a firearm, believed to be connected to the investigation, from Milton Road on Thursday, February 1.”
