A blaze which ripped through a pile of fly-tipped rubbish outside a house in Northam is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters rushed to Augustine Road at around 11pm on Sunday night to tackle the blaze in a front garden.

The fire involved a collection of household waste and was extinguished using a hose reel and jets.

Police were informed as it was believed that the fire was set deliberately. 

Firefighters left the scene at around 11.31pm.

Images taken of the aftermath on Monday morning show the waste overflowing onto the pavement outside the property.

A police spokesperson confirmed they were made aware of the incident but did not attend.
