Homes are without water in the Romsey area after supply was interrupted, Southern Water has confirmed.

Tankers are in Chivers Road, Abbotswood, Romsey, as the utility company tries to restore supplies.

Homes in the SO51 0AT postcode area are affected.

A statement from Southern Water said: "Our teams are investigating an issue in SO51 0AT which means you may lose pressure or water supply today.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience this could cause."

It added: "When supply does return, bubbles and some temporary discolouration are normal."

Lib Dem Geoff Cooper said: "This is the second time in as many months that the residents of Abbotswood have suffered a loss of water supply.

"The residents of the area have had enough! I’ve spoken to several people today who are sick of Southern Water’s persistent failures to supply them with water.

"These repeated losses of water supply are a direct result of years of under-investment by Southern Water, in the infrastructure needed.

"For years the company chose to pay out bonuses and dividends rather than investing and maintaining its infrastructure.

"Now to add insult to injury, Southern Water is increasing bills to residents of Abbotswood and elsewhere by around 12 per cent, so they can start investing in the exact same infrastructure they have ignored and allowed to crumble for years. Customers should not be covering the costs of their failure.

"This week Southern Water has dumped sewage in the River Test and failed to supply water to our residents.

"I am calling for them to have their licence revoked for their persistent failure to provide water to our residents and for their continued environmental vandalism."

In July 2023, Southern Water's chief executive and chief financial officer both declined a bonus for the year to March 2023.

The firm paid £587,000 in total earnings to its four executives during the financial year 2022/2023.
