The roof of a mansion has been destroyed after it was engulfed by a large fire.

Over 60 firefighters worked into the night to tackle the blaze at a property in Curdridge on Sunday evening.

Fourteen fire engines from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service attended at the height of the shocking incident.

No injuries were reported and all occupants were safely evacuated.

It was confirmed the roof had been destroyed and the ground-floor had suffered significant water damage following the stop message, which came in shortly after 9am today.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "Teams from Overton, Fordingbridge, New Milton, Redbridge, Liphook, Hardley and Winchester have attended this morning to continue damping down hotspots.

"We expect our crews will have some form of presence at the Curdridge property for most of the day.

"They will be joined this morning by fire investigation officers who will work to establish the cause of the blaze."

A road closure is currently in force on Curdridge Lane which is likely to remain in place for most of the day.

The fire was reported shortly before 7.30pm last night.

The fire service added: "Crews from Botley, Bishop’s Waltham, Hightown, Fareham, Eastleigh, Wickham, St Mary’s, Droxford, Cosham and Hamble were involved in the initial stages of the blaze.

"The electric and gas supplies to the property were isolated by engineers, as firefighters used hose reels and jets to extinguish the flames.

"USAR officers provided advice due to the property’s unstable structure following fire damage.

"The fire was surrounded shortly after midnight, when relief crews from Basingstoke, Alton, Hayling Island, Grayshott, Gosport, Rushmoor, Lymington and Horndean took over from the firefighters who were first on the scene."
