Fordingbridge recreation ground has been submerged in flood water following heavy rainfall.

The recreation ground lies on the southern side of the flooded River Avon, which has spilt out onto the nearby land.

This follows the wettest February in the region for 188 years.

A flood warning was issued by the Environment Agency on Monday, March 4, due to the rising river levels.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “River levels are high on the Middle Hampshire Avon from Salisbury to Ringwood due to the recent heavy rainfall.

“Areas most at risk include Britford, Charlton All Saints, Downton and Fordingbridge that are close to the River Avon.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”

The Environment Agency added: “Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
