Work on the Millbrook flyover is forcing it to close overnight.
Southampton City Council confirmed the work that started on Thursday night is due to last around seven days.
The stretch is shut in both directions between 8pm and 6am.
Alongside resurfacing the flyover, maintenance works will also be carried out on the bridge joints.
During the closures each night, drivers in Millbrook have been advised to use the diversion route through the Millbrook Roundabout.
A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: ““The flyover (is) closed during these hours and traffic will need to use Millbrook Roundabout as a diversion route.”
This comes after a huge £56 million scheme to redesign the ring road in Southampton which has resulted in some congestion around the city.
