A large machete was found hidden in the bushes in a busy pedestrian area.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary uncovered the sizeable blade in the subway area near to Six Dials.

A deal bag containing a large amount of suspected Class A drugs was also found.

The knife sweep was carried out by officers and welfare wardens in Southampton, who said ‘better in our possession than the wrong hands’.

A photograph shared online by the force showed the machete alongside a smaller knife and other sharp objects.

Several packets of other drugs were also discovered.
